WOMEN RIGHTS.

1)     IS  WOMEN RIGHTS IN ISLAM OUTDATED

2)     WOMEN OF WESTERN WORLD

3)     STATUS OF WOMEN IN ISLAM

4)     WOMEN RIGHTS IN CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM

1. IS  WOMEN RIGHTS IN ISLAM OUTDATED

Question :

Women rights in Islam are outdated, and does not match in present day requirements, do you agree?

Answer :

In Muslim society, women are always the responsibility of males. From birth, she is her father's responsibility until her marriage. If her father dies, she becomes the responsibility of her grandfather or her uncle or her brother until her marriage. During marriage, she becomes the responsibility of her husband. If the marriage ends in divorce or her husband dies, she returns to the responsibility of her family. If none are available, she becomes the responsibility of her son and if she has no sons, she becomes the responsibility of the head of state. The Prophet (pbuh) was reported to have said, "I am the guardian of one who has no guardian... "

Women rights in Islam are not outdated, but does not match with the present day women exploitation in the name of moderation, freedom and equality. Please remember that in Islam it is told to us that we are at earth for a short period of time for test, in which we have to win back our destination, that is Heaven, from which we were sent to earth because of disobedience by Adam and Eve (when they eaten the forbidden fruit). So basic concept of Islam and west is different in terms of our stay in this world.

West has not concept that we will be accounted for our deeds, but they think that this world is just for enjoyment, and you are free to do whatever you like, and still you will be going to Heaven (by their illogical belief). There is no detailed concept, that some deeds are serious sin in the view of Allah and should be avoided. This makes them bold to do all kind of sins without feeling of sin. Believing, our God wants us to live here as per His commands, is the main difference between west and Islam about different deeds and behaviors we do.

The ‘Women’s rights in Islam’ should be judged according to the basic concept of what God wants her to be in this world. They are described in Quran and in authentic Hadiths by our beloved Prophet (may peace be upon him).  It should not be seen what some individual Muslims do, or what the Muslim society does.

‘Women’s rights in Islam’ can be divided into 6 broad categories.

1)    Spiritual rights

2)    Economical rights

3)    Social rights

4)    Educational rights

5)    Legal rights

6)    Political rights

1.  Spiritual Rights

In Islam spiritually, women are just as equal to men. She can do all spiritual worshipping as men do. She is going to Paradise with her deeds as men would. Allah says :

“If any of you do deeds of righteousness, whether it be male or a female and has faith, they shall surely enter Paradise and not the least injustice shall be done to them” (An-Nisa 4:124)

In the Bible, only Eve is held responsible (May peace be upon her) for the downfall of humanity.  And according to the doctrine of ‘Original Sin’, because of Eve (may peace be upon her) the whole of humanity is born in sin.  Pregnancy and child birth has been said in the Bible to degrade the women and the labour pain is a sort of punishment.  In contrast there is no concept of original sin, and human born without any sin on him/her.

Regarding child birth, if you read the Qur’an, pregnancy and child birth have uplifted the women. Women are respected more than men, as mentioned in Quran.

“And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal” (Luqman31:14)

The only criteria for judgment in the sight of Allah is ‘Taqwa’, that is ‘God fearing and righteousness.  Sex, color, caste, wealth has got no criteria in Islam for entering heaven or hell.

As man, a women can be a very good Muslim, as were found many in the history of Islam. All wives of prophet were the model of best women. With equal chances of worshipping as men, women even have been given certain concession in Islam, which shows her favor from Allah.  For example, if she is undergoing her menstrual period or pregnancy, she does not have to fast. She can keep those fasts later, when she is more healthy. She can leave fasts even if she is not healthy enough and she has to feed her child.  She has to leave prayers during her periods and not have to pray back for these days .

2. Economical Rights

Islam gave economical rights to the women 1,300 years before the West. An adult Muslim woman can own,  dispose any of her property without consulting any one, irrespective whether she is married or she is single.

A women in Islam, if she wishes to work she can work - There is no text in the Qur’an or the authentic Hadith which prevents or makes it prohibited for a woman to work, as long as it is not unlawful. She can work as long as she maintains her Islamic dress code.

But natural, she cannot take up jobs, which exhibit her beauty and body,  for example, modeling, waitress, air hostess, film acting, and other such kind of jobs. Many of the professions and jobs which are prohibited for the woman are also prohibited for the man, for example serving liquor, working in gambling dens.

She is allowed to work in education schools, factories and small scale industries, which has been designed exclusively for the ladies.  She can work in places which have got separate sections of gents and ladies, because Islam does not agree with intermingling of the sex.

A true Islamic society requires women to take up profession such as doctors because Islam forbids women “aura” to be seen by males (if female doctor not available, then it is exception). Especially we do require female Gynecologists and female nurses. We do require female teachers.

She can also do business, and where it involves interaction with a foreign male, she should do it through her father, brother, husband or  son. Bibi Khatija (may Allah be pleased with her) who was the wife of our beloved Prophet (may peace be upon him) is the best example of a business women.

However, a woman in Islam has got no financial obligations - The financial obligation is laid on the shoulders of the man in the family (father and brothers). So she can work on her own wish, to support her home if her family elders wants, but it is not mandatory as it is in west.

It is the duty of the father or the brother to support and look after her lodging, boarding, clothing, financial and education needs, before she is married. After marriage, it is the duty of the husband or her son, to care for her needs, so she is always on the receiving end.  Getting married, a girl is contracted to receive, ‘Meher’ which is compulsory and can be of any amount according to the status of boy.  In case of divorce or if a wife gets widowed, she is given financial support for the period of ‘Iddah’ - and if she has children, she is also given child support.

Islam gave the right to the women to inherit, centuries ago.

3. Social Rights

a) Rights As A Daughter

In Islam, a daughter should be brought up with great care as she is the “Trust deposited” with them on behalf of her future husband. Girls are raised keeping in view that they will be, in future has to take care her future generation as good as possible. They should be educated in the ethics of Islam, which include respectful behaviour to parents, husband, other elders and society at large.  Their well brought up is so highly graded that prophet says :

Prophet (peace be upon him) said ‘Anyone who up brings two daughters properly and takes good care and brings them up with love and affection, they will enter Paradise’.

b) Rights As  A Wife

Islam does not want and encourage any type of sex enjoyment before marriage by men or women. Women body and virginity is only for his husband (not as sale as in west). Marriage is treated as the basic right of all men and women.

If you read Surah Rum, Ch. 30, Verse No. 21 it says that… And amongst our signs We have created for you mates or companions, so that you may dwell in them in tranquillity and we have put love and mercy between your hearts’... (Ar-Rum 30:21)

It is compulsory that the man and women both should agree to marry No one,  not even the father can force their daughter to marry against her wishes. There’s a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari, Volume No. 7, Ch. No. 43, Hadith No. 69, which says ‘that a lady she was forced by her father to marry against her wishes’ - And she went to the Prophet and the Prophet invalidated the marriage’

Another Hadith in Ibn-e-Humbal, Hadith No. 2469, it says ‘that a daughter was forced by her father to get married - And when the daughter approached the Prophet, the Prophet said you can either continue, or if you wish you can invalidate the marriage.

It means, the consent of both the male and the female is required. In Islam, a woman is considered as a home maker, that is to taking care husband, raising children along with maintaining home.   She is not considered as a housewife, because she is not married to the house, instead she is called “home queen” as she has almost full authority to run house business. Men take care of her all needs.

And there is a Hadith which says in Ibn-Hambal - Hadith No 736, 7396.
It says that…
‘the most perfect of the believers are those that  are best in character and behavior, and those that are best to their family and their wives’.

Husband and wife have equal rights in all aspects, except leadership in the family.  It is mentioned in the Qur’an in Surah Baqarah Ch.2, Verse No.228.  It says that ”…And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree higher over them. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise”.

Over here Arabic word ‘Kawwam’ means one degree higher in responsibility, not one degree higher in superiority.  Even if you dislike your wife, you have to treat her kindly and with equity.

It is  mentioned in Surah  Nisa, Ch.4, Verse No.19, that… ‘...Treat your wives on a footing of equity and kindness even if you dislike her - For you may be disliking a thing for which Allah has made good for you’. (An-Nissa 4:19)

c).  Rights As  Mother

Mother in Islam is most respected in family. West can not even imagine of its degree which a Muslim has for her. Every child is ready to do everything to please her. There is no thinking of abandoning her when she is old. Allah says :

"Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them to attain old age with thee, say not ‘Fie’ unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word. (23) And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy, and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little.” (Al-Isra 17 : 23-24)

“And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal”. (Luqman 31:14)

Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 73. Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab). Hadith 002.  Narrated By Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet said, "your mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your father."

So 75% of the love and respect goes to the mother and 25% of the love and respect goes to the father.

Anyhow as per Islamic teaching, old parents are your heaven or hell. You can earn heaven by serving and being obedient to them in all cases except when they order something against Islamic guidelines.   On the opposite if you don’t care for them in their needs and old days, you are going towards hell, even you are doing good deeds.

d). Rights As Sisters

Brothers take care of her daily needs out of home and also taking care her not getting abused by street boys. If required they accompany her for her needs out of her home. If father dies, then it is his duty to take care of his sister needs and get her married. If unluckily she is divorced, it is the responsibility of brother to look after her until she is again married or not.

4. Educational rights

The Prophet ordained parents, the father and the mother, to see to it that they should give Religious education to their daughter. The first and most importance is the basic knowledge of Islam in general and Quran in particular. Initially guidance given in the Qur’an to the humankind was not to pray, to fast, or to give charity but it was “to read”, which means education.

Girls are given equal opportunity as of boys. Along with modern education, religious education is given to let them understand Allah, His  prophets and Quran. This get them understand what is good and bad in life and what are sins and good deeds, what is forbidden and what is allowed to eat and what to follow and what to avoid. So a girl gets knowledge that it is her duty to keep her modesty and virginity. She learns how to clothes herself and how to behave people.

Bibi Ayaisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the daughter of Hazrat Abubaker, the first Khalifa of Islam, (may Allah be pleased with him), and the wife of our beloved Prophet Muhammed (may peace be upon him).  She was not only expert in the Religious field, she had profound knowledge of medicine - Whenever the foreign delegates came to the Prophet and discussed, she used to memorize the remedies  She is  said to have taught more than 88 scholars. In short, she was a scholar of the scholars.

5. Legal Rights

According to the Islamic law, men and women are equal - The Shariah protects the life and property of a man and woman both.  If a man murders a woman he too will receive the ‘Hudd” punishment – That is Capital punishment of ‘Kisas’

According to Surah Maida, Ch.5, Verse No.38 - It says… ‘”As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in power”.

Means, if a person robs, irrespective whether he is a man or a woman his or her hands should be chopped, that is, the punishment is same. If any commits fornication, be it a man or a woman, they get same punishment.

“(As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah ……” (Surah  Nur 24 :2)

6. Political Rights

Women can even take part in law making. And according to the famous Hadith in which Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he was discussing with the Sahabas, and considering putting an upper limit on the ‘Meher ’, since young men were discouraged from getting married.  A lady from the back seat, she objected and said, When the Qur’an says in Surah Nisa Ch.4, Verse No.20 that ‘But if ye decide to take one wife in place of another, even if ye had given the latter a whole treasure for dower, Take not the least bit of it back ……”.

Thus even give a heap of treasure, a heap of gold in ‘Meher (dower)’, when Qur’an puts no limit on ‘Meher’, who is Umar to put a limit (may Allah be pleased with him).  And immediately Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) he said… ‘Umar is wrong and the lady is right’

There is a full chapter in the Sahih Bukhari mentioning women in the battle field.  Women gave water and they gave first aid to the soldiers. And there is a particular mention of a woman by the name of Nasiba, who were among the few, who protected our beloved Prophet during the battle of Ohud. However Under normal circumstances, the women should not go to the battle field. It is the duty of the man. Otherwise you’ll have the same position as happens in the USA army.

However Allah has given concession to women due to their physical weakness (since Allah has given man more strength). Suppose a thief enters the house, you will not ask your wife, sister or mother to go and fight the thief. Naturally you’ll fight him since Allah has given you more physical strength to tackle the thief then a women.  So here, in physical strength, man is one degree higher than the woman.

Let us take another example where it comes respecting the parents. The children are supposed to respect the mother 3 times more than the father.  Here the women have one degree higher than the men.

Women Rights in West

Now let us discuss, The Western society, how they treat their women and what are women’s rights.

Spiritual rights of Western Women , Economical rights, Social rights, Educational rights, Legal rights, Political rights.

First of all there is no concept of spirituality behaviour in West, neither in men nor in women. They have all material thinking and spiritual satisfaction has no real meaning over there.

Economical rights of Western Women

Regarding Economical rights of women, they are forced to work in the name of equality and freedom. Men don’t bother that their daughters, sisters and wives will be subjected to adultery and raping, just they think that she has to earn at any cost. This is just a colorfull putting them for getting sinful.

Social rights of Western Women

a) Rights As A Daughter

Regarding Social rights as a daughter, wife, mother and sister. Girls  are treated just as a toy, which are good to play when kid. Instead of giving full attention of love, they are sent to child care. When teenager, no care for their religious knowledge is given and what is sin and what God wants her to follow. Modesty and telling her how to wear, how to sit and how to keep her safe from opposite sex are not important to be taught. Virginity is treated as an item which is to be thrown as early as possible. Even some places, fathers are the first to take her virginity before she knows its importance. Statistics shows that in USA, 90% of girls are already get involved in sex before passing their high school. Remaining complete this as soon as they enter in college.

Is all this not responsibility of parents to keep their daughter safe from this illegal sex. No shame that their daughter is involved in sex enjoyment before marriage. No care that their daughter should choose a descent life partner, which is good in character and religion.

b) Rights As  A Wife

As a wife, no care that she will be feeling bad and insulted with the affairs of her husband, who generally enjoying other ladies, as from his wife he has already got bored. She is expected to do hard job along with raising of children and doing home work of cooking and cleaning. Divorcing her is common even after passing few years. No concept of keeping same wife for whole of life.

c).  Rights As  Mother

As mothers who is old with no capability of her own earning, no care for their lodging and physical service by children. No care of their lonliness and giving them company in such lonely days. Living separate, children only wishing them on their birthdays etc. or at the most getting them admitted in old homes.

d). Rights As Sisters

As sisters, brother never care that her sister is going on wrong path. She wears clothes exposing her figure, tempting him and his friends is not of shame. Even most places brothers are the first to take her virginity before she knows it is a sin. They even not object that their own male friends or sisters boyfriends are doing fornication. He doesn’t care if his sister becomes nude modelist, filming in blue films or becoming a prostitute.

Educational rights of Western Women

Women are getting all worldly education except the education of religion. No knowledge about reason of our creation, about God, His books, His prophets and what are commands by God regarding living in this life. No concept is given that this life is temporary and hereafter life is permanent. No warning that your deeds will be accounted, and you will be only getting entry visa to heaven after passing through an  interview on the Day of Judgment, in which your all deeds book will be placed before you to decide yourself.

She gets mixed educated along boys. She is not told that intermingling sex is the main source of sex crimes. Instead she is taught how to get sex taste safely. Modesty and virginity importance are never taught. They are not told about sex related sins and their punishment, here and hereafter.

According to statistics, most of girls lose their virginity before going to high school. And in colleges and university you will find hardly a virgin girl. A virgin girl is treated as a women, not wanted by boys.

statistics also tells us that 50% of the women in America, who go to universities and work places, are raped - Do you know that why? Because most of the jobs in America, involve intermingling of sexes. If you think that a lady should be raped, it is modernizing, then Islam is outdated - if you think not, then Islam is the most modernizing.

Legal rights of Western Women   .

Girls and women are getting raped at home by father and brother, and in school and colleges by classmates and there is no punishment. Either it is not treated as crime, or even if it is taken to justice, nominal punishment is given to let him do again. Women exploitation in incest and fornication is so much that instead of treating as exploitation of women, it is treated as normal course of  women life?  Women are encouraged to wear figure exposing clothes, thus making it easy to trap them.

Political rights of Western Women

Women in west have got right to participate in politics and vote. This is also available in some Muslim countries. However in political parties women are subjected to be a tool of enjoyment along with politics. You may be listening at different times in news, sexual crimes within party but most of it is not reported, because sex sin is not a sin over there.

Conclusion

First of all let us accept that women and men are not created by God as equal. Men can not give birth to child, even can’t breast feed it. Men can not have mensuration, whatever you do. Women can not have beard. Men can not have the same love of child as of mother. Women can not build the same strength as men. Even in civilized countries you have got separate games for women and men. Why all that, if they are equal. Even where justice is possible still in countries like USA, women are not equally paid.

Exploring different fields of women studying and working, if Islam does not allow intermingling of sexes alongwith forbidding liquor and gambling,  then this is not un-modern or outdated but it is updated with full dignity of women?  If you mean by modernizing, that you put your women for sale as a sex toy to get enjoyed by all males (by intermingle with them) then be this freedom only for your women. Or if you want them to take the profession as modeling, waitresses, airhostesses, sex worker, and working in environment where there are full chances of getting sexually assaulted, then I think that Islam is outdated in that. It is said that the cheapest useable item in USA is a women, what a shame for “Women Rights” voice.

Western media crying that their Western culture have given more rights to the women, and they have risen the status of the women, but actually they have degraded them. As I told earlier the cheapest of the item you can have, it is said, even offering a cup of coffee or a cup of drink. Once drunk, you can do anything you want (of course exception are always there)

Islam believes that men and woman has to win back their goal to go in heaven, even they have to sacrifice some of their wishes, which is not the case of western men and women. Women all over in Islamic world are working, but they are respected on their education institution and work places and are happy and satisfied. They guard their modesty and not getting raped by their indecent behavior; although they are at some place have to work along with men.

The rate of divorce in Islam is minimum, may be 2% as compared to west which may be 90 to 95%. It means women in Islamic environment are living more stable and happy life as compared to west. In west, couples live together with illegal sex relations for years but when they get married, after changing many partners, they get divorced.

2.  WOMEN OF WESTERN WORLD

Question:

Women in the west are free and equal to men and are happy, whereas women in Islam are deprived and treated inferior, what is your comment?

Answer: Praise be to Allah.

Women In The West

Women in the west are nothing but a tool of sex enjoyment by men with the name of female freedom and equality. They are exploited for sex display in all fields of life. But the worst of all is that they are used extensive for Adultery and even Incest.  They are made involved in sex exploitation even before getting matured, thus they don’t understand that they are being exploited as sex oriented labor without being paid.

As for married women in West, a woman may charge her husband for rape and he may be prosecuted and jailed. If the husband desires sexual relations and she does not and he insists it is considered rape. The wife has the right to say no.

Men and women are considered equal according to Western standards. No one has the final authority in marriage. Consequently, when the spouses differ and neither one backs down, the end result is divorce.

Men are considered the head of the family and the final decisions are in his hand. This has been the natural order in the vast majority of societies in world, ancient and modern. The man's responsibility is to provide food, clothing and shelter for his wife and her responsibility is to obey him as long as his requests are permissible according to Islamic law.

Women and men have different capacities for sexual relations. A woman may have relations without having any desire at all. For example, prostitutes may have sex with a large number of men, one immediately after the other, for money. Whereas, a man may be incapable of having sex if he has no desire at all. Consequently, the Prophet (pbuh) instructed women to come to their husbands whenever they are called upon but he did not instruct men vise versa. Thus, in Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was reported to have said, "When a man calls his wife to satisfy his desire, she must go to him even if she is occupied at the oven.  And he was also quoted as saying, "If a woman refuses her husband's bed and he passes the night angry with her, the angels will curse her until the morning.

In Islam, a woman is obliged to give herself to her husband and he may not be charged with rape. Of course, if a woman is physically ill or exhausted, her husband should take her condition into consideration and not force himself upon her.

As you know that married life is already spoiled in west, and couples like to live without marriage (when they marry, soon divorce follows). Women are treated just for sex amusement.

Let us see how the women started to be used as sex toy.

Adultery and Incest

Suppose you have a girl student in your class, and she usually  intentionally or unintentionally wearing clothes which are exposing her breast, hips and thighs.  She is also getting free with you to be her boyfriend. Would you refuse that? Of course “No”. Then after having friendship and no hesitation of touching, kissing etc,  could you control your sex emotions and then rape her, is that will be a sin?

Suppose you find a girl after sunset in lonely place walking in a dress which is exciting your sex emotions, would you not dare to catch her? If you say “No” then either environment is not so conducive, or you are liar. So if you rape her, is that will be a sin?

Suppose you have a sister who is already free to you and she is wearing at home, clothes, which are most of the time showing her sex curves without any hesitation, then you, being a young boy, can you control your sex emotions, (being almost of the same age, and may be already enjoying sex outside). If you say “Yes”, then either you are angel or you are liar. So if you rape her, is that will be a sin?

Suppose you have daughters, (whom no body at home ever seriously objected her wearing clothes which clearly exposing her sex parts) and daily sitting opposite to you (or in your lap) or lying at bed with full or partly view of her body, can you control your control your sex emotions whereas you are still sex sensitive.  If you say “Yes” then either you are coward or you are liar. Now if after having drinking, if you rape her for the first time, is that will be a sin?

Thus sin starts without concept of sin. Sex exploitation of women get started when she knows nothing about women rights, she is only made to know that she is born for sex enjoyment.

Sinful Behaviour :

Sex enjoyment is no more treated as sin in west. Sex sin starts from the beginning without girl is actually matured. No body cares that a girl virginity is her precious pride which is the amanah (Arabic word, means husband right mortgage with parents). She having no lessons of modesty and knowing nothing that it is a great sin as per scriptures, starts getting sex taste at her immatured age. She is not matured enough to think of wrongdoing or sinning. Having cleared from responsibility of being virgin, she then continuously starts enjoying sex in the hands of men. Allah forbids adultery and says in Quran:

"and do not come near Zina; indeed, it is an abomination and an evil way" (Al-Isra' 17: 32)

There are openly sexy emotional scenes on TV. Parents also see all this in present of their young children, which makes these children to believe that sex enjoyment is not a forbidden fruit before marriage. Even XXX rated movies are easily available to young teenagers, then think how they can control their sex emotions with no strict restriction from elders (and sometimes elders also become part of it). Now when young boys and girls see all this, then why they won’t like to practice it. So adultery and incest are part of their life. Any reader of west may be exceptional, but what is written is true and they should accept it. All this show the VERY SINFUL BEHAVIOUR OF WESTERN MEN AND EXPLOITATATION OF WOMEN FROM THE TIME WHEN THEY ARE IMMATURED.

In western society you will hardly find a virgin girl by the age of 15 to 17. Some even lose their virginity even between 12 & 15. Parents are either themselves involved or they knew that their daughter is already practicing that. No admonition from parents, as they were already doing that in their age. There is no concept that a boy will find a virgin girl when he is getting married. Girls are being continuously raped with or without consent, and they both think that they are not sinning but enjoying their basic rights. In homes father and brothers enjoying incest and outside couples are enjoying sex extensively, even in groups.

Women are being exposed to sex pleasure in hotels, clubs, movies. People are so addicted with women sex exposure that they even don’t mind seeing their sisters, mothers and wives nude by themselves at home, nude beaches, nude clubs and blue films. Just see following survey.

2000-SEP: Poll about nudism: The Naturist Education Foundation (NEF) contracted with the Roper-Starch organization to conduct a national poll of the public's attitudes toward nude sunbathing. Some results were:

Among Americans of all ages:

·        19% have participated in nude recreation with mixed company.

·        80% believe that people should be able to enjoy nude recreation as long as it is in a designated area. This is an increase from 72% in 1983.

·        18% personally would consider visiting a clothes-optional resort or nude beach.

Among younger American adults aged 18 to 34:

·        97% believe that people should be able to enjoy nude recreation as long as it is in a designated area.

How shameful are the figures. In USA 80 to 97% people wants to let themselves, their daughters, sister, wives getting seen nude by themselves and others. This may have been increased to 100% in last seven years. Or I think remaining 3% will be Muslims or Indian origin, which means 100% Americans have no shame and feel of sin being naked in public. Why, because they think it is not a sin but natural desire.

There is no more necessity of marriage in western society. Couples live years without getting married, and even exchanging partners. Children are born illegally but that is not treated as sin. Women are deprived of their right of marriage and rights of getting some money if divorced. Children are deprived from the love of either of them, or even both, in the case of separation. President of USA has to request nation to save family life by getting married.

I was listening a report where it is said that USA should not give military aid to USA friendly countries, where children are used in armies for war e.g. Sera lone, Colombia and Nepal etc. But think about the USA itself where children are educated in schools how to be a safe sex user, instead of how to save their modesty. Instead of educating and telling girls, importance of being virgin and modest, girls are encouraged how to be get sexually oppressed. They are never told that they must not get sexually involved before marriage, instead encouraged to start it as early as possible. They are not advised to wear modest clothes, instead showing no objection of their short and exposing clothes in mini skirt and biknies. Casino, clubs, hotels, movies, beaches are available to let them show their sex figure in, transparent, topless and even without clothes. Prostitution is legalized as sex worker.

What a shameful is all that. Should not Uncivilized Countries break relations with USA on vastly promoting Women Sex abuse? But all this is done with the logo of “Freedom of Women”. As in the above mentioned countries, teenagers boys don’t have time to think what is child abuse, same way in civilized countries, girls are not given time to think what is sex abused. They are already addicted in sex before they can understand what is sex abuse. As sex abuse is common in civilized countries, so it is not a crime, as per their society. They even don’t think that religiously it is one of great sin. God says:

"O ye who believe! Follow not Satan`s footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will (but) command what is indecent and wrong. " (An-Nür 24 : 21)

Homosexuality :

In addition there is another very rapid increasing disease in west of being homosexuality. There are millions and millions of Lesbians and gays in USA and all western world. They don’t feel it a sin and against the God’s command and wish. God has made men and women for getting reproduction of human through marriage but these advanced countries civilized people wants  to destroy this concept. And the strange thing is that it is not only generally accepted by their society but also in some states it is legalized by states to get same sex marriage. Now tell me where will go those millions of millions of girls who want to get married but won’t find a husband due to this disease. Is that not a refutation of women rights? Then women will automatically become just like a prostitute to satisfy her sex. Is all this a not a sin?

Overall, in west, you will find drinking liquor, gambling all over, which are added source of all sins. They don’t care or do not want to believe on Allah’s saying in Quran :

“And the Book (of Deeds) will be placed (before you); and thou wilt see the sinful (persons) in great terror because of what is (recorded) therein; they will say, "Ah! woe to us! what a Book is this! It leaves out nothing small or great, but takes account thereof!" They will find all that they did, placed before them: and your Lord does not deal unjustly with anyone”. (Al-Kahf 18:49)

Women in Islam

Now I tell you how the women are raised, treated or respected in Islam. From the birth of girl, she is saved from exposure to the males as naked for her natural changing of diapers, bathing etc. From the time of getting little sense full, she is taught Quran and what it says about women modesty. She is told that Allah has forbidden women purposely showing her figure, and it is a sin. She is rooted in mind that illegal sex before marriage is one of the major sin whose punishment is very severe in this world and hereafter. She is not only told to dress modestly (which should not tempt males by her figure curves) but also monitored by parents.

She is then gets separately educated from boys. She is told that intermingling sex is the main source of sex crimes. No concept of boy friend is in Islam. After finishing education, first preference is that she gets married. Parents are very much worried that she should be married as early as possible. However her consent is always necessary for the boy chosen by parents. She can also tell her own choice and it is parents responsibility to get checked boy creditability and advice her accordingly. If all OK, marriage of her choice is carried out. So marriage choice is not forced.

She can work at places where she has not to get mixed with opposite sex. Even in medical education or in some offices where she has to be present with opposite sex, she is told not to clothe her in sex tempting dress and also not to talk men unnecessarily. If talking, don’t make your voice so soft that opposite sex get a wrong signal.

With all this a girl is safe from sexually misuse. Parents take care of their needs and also there where about. They are responsible by their religious duty that their daughter is safe from any sexually misused.

Girls have in their mind that their virginity is so important that there is no compensation for that. They may like to be killed than get raped. They know that it is only her husband right over her virgin body. No sex exposure at home or outside, therefore no temptation for incest or adultery. In Islam both men and women have to be modest and fear this great sin.

The objectives of sex, mentioned by Allah in the verse, reads:

"And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell with them in tranquility, and He has put love and mercy between you. Indeed, in this are signs for those who reflect." (Ar-Rum 30: 21)

So sex relations are only meant for husband and wife and anybody crossing this limit is doing a great sin. So the girls raised in such environment can hardly be misused. Example is of Saudi Arabia, where sex crimes are minimum not even 0.1%. The reason is that environment is secured for women, and women themselves does not wear tempting clothes. Even a case happens, the punishment is so severe that only mad man can dare that. Compare this with USA, where presently, on average more than 3000 rapes are reported every day. Mutual adultery and incest is not included in this which is so high that it can not be imagined. So where is more Women respect, USA or in Saudia.

Conclusion

In west, it is labeled that women have got freedom and equal rights, but actually they are used merely as sex tool, and deprived of their rights which they will enjoy, if getting married. They are not respected for being virgin, but they think such girl as one whom nobody liked to be used. What a shame, a virgin girl is just an abuse of her personality.

The Western society which speaks of upgrading the status of women in their countries, have actually reduced her status to concubines, to mistresses, to society butterflies, which are mere tools in the hands of sex marketers and pleasure seekers, which are disguised behind the colorful screen of art and culture. Women are made so much involved in sex that during their job they are raped or enjoyed, even their leaders are involved in it, example is of President Clinton. Lately in May 2007, it is revealed that there was a prostitute den running under the umbrella of White House. Political leaders are gifted women for political gains.

3. Status of women in Islam

Question:

What is the position of women in Islam? What are the rights of women? What are the duties of a Muslim woman, as a wife, mother and daughter?

Answer:

Principles on which the Islamic view of the status of women is based.

1.    Men and women are absolutely equal with regard to their human status. Allah says in the Qur'an: "Mankind, remain conscious of your Lord, who has created you all out of a single soul, and out of it created its mate..." (An-Nisa 4:1) The Prophet says: "Women are the sisters of men." (Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawood and others) Needless to say that brothers and sisters are equally treated.

2.    Earlier religions used to put all the blame for man's fall from heaven on women. Islam repudiates that and makes Adam and Eve equally responsible for that. On the incident of their disobedience in heaven, Allah says in the Qur'an: "Satan caused them both to stumble, and thus brought them out of what they had been in...." (Al-Baqarah 2:36) Indeed, in some verses, the sin is attributed to Adam alone: "....Adam disobeyed his Lord and thus he was astray." (Ta’ha 20:121)

Furthermore, Islam rejects outright the principle of the original sin. It considers everyone responsible for his or her actions. Thus, no woman is responsible in anyway for what Eve had done in heaven, in the same way as no man is responsible for what Adam did there.

3.    A woman is susceptible to faith in the same way as a man is. Thus she deserves admittance into heaven if she does well in her life, and she is liable to punishment if she does badly. The same standard applies here to both men and women. Allah says in the Qur'an: "Whoever does well, whether male or female, having already accepted the faith, shall be made by Us to enjoy a goodly living. We will also administer to them their reward according to their best deeds." (An-Nahl16:97)

He also says: "....Their Lord answers their prayer: I shall not loose sight of what any of you does, whether man or woman; each of you is an issue of the other...." (Aal-Imran 3 :195)

4.    Islam denounces the practice of those who feel sad or adopt a gloomy posture when a girl is born to them. This used to be the case in Arabia prior to the advent of Islam, and it is still so in many communities. According to Islam, the birth of a girl should be celebrated in the same way as the birth of a son.

5.    Prior to Islam, several Arabian tribes used to bury newborn girls alive. Islam has forbidden that practice and denounced it in clearest of terms, threatening those who kill their children with utter ruin in this life and in the life to come.

6.    Islam issues strict orders to all Muslims to take good care of their women and look after them properly, whether they are their daughters, wives or mothers. In connection with looking after young girls, the Prophet says: "He who looks after two young girls until they attain puberty will be on the day of judgment with me like these two (and he pointed with his two fingers)."

The Qur'anic verse and the Hadith which says: "The best blessing in this world is a good wife who pleases you when you look at her and protects you when you are away." (Related by Muslim and Ibn Majah) The verses which emphasize the importance of being dutiful to one's parents often highlights the role of mothers in order to stress the fact that a Muslim is always required to take particularly good care of his mother. A man came to the Prophet and asked him: "Who deserves my caring attention most?" The Prophet answered: "Your mother". The man asked: "Who comes next?" The Prophet answered again: "Your mother". He gave the same answer the third time, but when the man asked him the same question again, the Prophet said: "Your father". (Related by Al-Bukhari).

7.    Islam also encourages that girls be educated as well as boys. The Prophet says: "To seek education is mandatory on every Muslim." All commentators on Hadith emphasize that this applies to both men and women in the same way. It is well known that a general Islamic order applies to both sexes without distinction, unless there is a specific indication to make it otherwise.

8.    Islam has made women entitled to shares in the inheritance of their parents, children or husbands, and Allah has apportioned shares of inheritance to women in all the situations. The right to inherit is given to females whether they are young or old, and indeed to a female embryo who has not been born.

9.    Islam has regulated the rights and duties of husband and wife, outlining the rights and obligations of each. Allah says in the Qur'an: "In accordance with justice, the rights of women (with regard to their husbands) are equal to the (husband's) rights with regard to them." (Al-Baqqarah 2:228)

10. Islam has also regulated divorce in a way which prevents its abuse by the man. No man can claim any arbitrary authority in matters that relate to divorce. [It is only when men or women overstep the Islamic regulations that injustices occur.]

11. Islam has also regulated polygamy, allowing a man to marry a maximum of four wives at any one time. In other communities which allow polygamy, there is no maximum number of wives a man may have.

12. When a girl is below the age of puberty, she is placed under the care of her guardian who is required to take good care of her, educate her and invest any property she has in a way which ensures its growth. When she comes of age, she has the same legal status as a man. She undertakes all financial and business transactions at the same level as of any man.

To sum up, Islam gives woman the same status as man without any distinction. From the social point of view, it gives her a dignified status throughout her life. Legally, she has the same status as men and she does not need to defer to any authority to be exercised by a man whether he is her father, husband or head of clan.

Having said that, I should point out that there are some minor differences between men and women in certain aspects of Islamic law. These differences relate to a woman's position in her family and her rights, duties and obligations in the Islamic system. They do not reflect on human status.

A woman in the Islamic system is not required to work for her living. Her husband or her guardian is responsible to look after her. If she has none to support her, the state is required to undertake that task. At the same time, a woman is fully entitled to work either as a free agent or an employee. From the Islamic point of view, there is no decent job which is restricted to or made the absolute reserve of men. Provided that the Islamic standard of propriety and morality is maintained, a woman may have any respectable job.

In pre-Islamic days, women were generally ill-treated and given a low status in society. In the Greek civilization, women started with a very low status to the extent that they were considered impure, and they were bought and sold in marketplaces. A woman could not refuse a husband chosen by her guardian and she could not disobey her husband in anyway. Later, they acquired a somewhat higher status, but they remained inferior to men. The same applies to many other old civilizations. Under the Roman Empire, women did not have the right to own anything. If a woman had any property of her own, it was automatically transferred to the ownership of the head of the family. Later, in the reign of Justinian, women were given the right to retain what they earned through their own work, but any money given to a woman by the head of her family remained his.

Christian Europe was influenced by notions that prevailed in the days of paganism about the status of women. As recently as 1805, the English law allowed the man to sell his wife. In the year 586 AD. - that is when Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was still a young man - French elegies organized a convention in which they discussed whether women were human or not. They concluded that a woman was a human being created only to serve men. Even after the French Revolution, in the late 18th century, the French law continued to consider that an unmarried woman was totally unqualified to enter into any contract without the consent of her guardian. The French law of the time stipulated that those who did not have legal status were "young boys, idiots and women." You ask bout the duties of Muslim woman. In brief I can say that it is the duty of a wife to take good care of her husband and her family. Mothers must always be kind to their children, and daughters must always be respectful of, and dutiful to, their parents.

4. WOMEN RIGHTS IN CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM

(According to the Bible and The Quran)

Question :

How women rights are described in of Christianity and Islamic scriptures?

Answer :

There are lot of difference in the basic concepts of treating women in Christianity and Islam. As present Bible is corrupted therefore you will find illogical verses not only for different subjects of life, human behaviour and history, but also about women. Following are some examples.

Women's Nature

What the Bible Says :

A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. (1 Corinthians 11:7)

What the Quran Says

“… Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, male or female. You are one of another….”  (Aale-Imran 3:195)

Commentary

The Quran confirms that men and women are equal in the sight of Allah. The Quran does not say that the man is the glory of Allah and the woman is the Glory of man. This is nonsense because the male and the female are both created by Allah, and because the male comes from the female and the female comes from the male. They are one of another.

Women's Original Sin

What the Bible Says :

And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. (1 Timothy 2:14)

What the Quran Says :

“And he (Satan) swore by Allah to them both (Adam and Eve) (saying): "Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both." (21) So he misled them with deception….” (Al-Araf 7:21-22)

“….Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray (121) Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance”   (Taha 20:121-122)

Commentary

According to the Quran both Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan. The Quran blames both of them for their sin. However, Adam and Eve prayed earnestly to Allah for forgiveness and He forgave them.

According to the Bible, Eve was the sinner and because of her sin all humans are born in sin.

Women's Righteousness

What the Bible Says :

... I found one upright man among a thousand, but not one upright woman among them all. (Ecclesiastes 7:28)

Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! He said, "This is wickedness,"...  (Zechariah 5:7,8)

The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. (Proverbs 9:13)

What the Quran Says :

“And Allah has set forth an example to those who believe: The wife of Pharaoh, when she said: "My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his work, and save me from the people who do wrong." (11) And Mary, the daughter of lmran who guarded her chastity. And We breathed into (the sleeve of her garment) through Our Ruh (Gabriel), and she testified to the truth of the Words of her Lord, and His Scriptures, and she was one of the devout servants”. (At-Tahreem 66:11-12)

Commentary

The Bible states that women are foolish, wicked, undisciplined and without knowledge. It also says that no one upright woman was found among them all. On the contrary, the Quran orders all Muslims, men and women, to follow the shining examples of two perfect women, Mary the mother of Jesus (pbuh) and Pharaoh's wife. These two ideal women were models of faith, righteousness, and patience for the sake of Allah.

Women's Role

What the Bible Says :

Now I want you to realise that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. (1 Corinthians 11:3)

I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. (1 Timothy 2:12-14)

If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. (Exodus 21:7)

No widow may be put on the list of widows unless she is over sixty ... and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints... (1Timothy 5:9,10)

What the Quran Says :

“….And they (women) have rights (over their husbands) similar to the rights against them, in kindness, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise” (Al-Baqarah 2:228)

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women)….”  (An-Nisa 4:34)

“And give the women on marriage their dowry (money given by the husband to his wife) with a good heart….”   (An-Nisa 4:4)

Commentary

The Bible and the Quran are in agreement on the headship of the man over the family. However, they differ in the reasons for the man's headship and the powers of this headship.

The Bible makes the husband the head of the wife because the man is the glory of Allah while the woman is the glory of man, and because the woman was deceived and became a sinner.

According to the Bible, a woman is not allowed to teach or have authority over a man and must be silent; good women are those who wash the feet of saints; and what is more, a man can sell his daughter and she is not to go free!

Islam treats the man and the woman equally. The woman has rights similar to those of the man. However, Islam assigns to the man and the woman responsibilities which suit their physiological and psychological qualities. The man as a head of the family has a duty to earn money to provide his wife and children with all the requirements of life such as accommodation, food and clothes.

The woman is assigned the task of keeping house and bringing up future generations. The woman in Islam is not responsible for any financial obligation. She is not burdened with any duties other than her house and children.

Since no organization can work successfully without a leader, the husband is appointed as leader of the family which is a small organization. Without a leader, the family will be in complete disorder and marriage may end in divorce. Islam appoints the husband as head of the family for two reasons stated in the above Verse: firstly, the man's natural qualities are more suitable for this responsibility and secondly, the man bears all the financial requirements to support his family.

Women's Testimony

What the Bible Says :

If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when 1 approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity," then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate... Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town ... If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death... (Deuteronomy 22:13-21)

What the Quran Says :

And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four times) swearing by Allah that he is one of those who speak the truth (6) And the fifth (testimony should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allah on him if he is of those who tell a lie (7) But it shall avert (turn away) the punishment from her, if she bears witness four times by Allah, that he is telling a lie (8) And the fifth should be that the Wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaks the truth”  (An-Noor 24:6-9)

“And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them (the accusers) with eighty stripes and reject their testimony forever….”  (An-Noor 24:4)

“Verily, those who accuse chaste, believing women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter, and for them will be great torment”   (An-Noor 24:23)

Commentary

According to the judgment of the Bible, if a man accuses his wife of not being a virgin, the wife's father and mother have to bring proof that she was a virgin, otherwise, the wife will be stoned to death! The wife's testimony carries no weight!

According to the judgment of the Quran, if a man accuses his wife of committing adultery, the wife can nullify the accusation as her testimony is accepted, consequently, the wife will not be punished.

However, if the accuser is not her husband, then he has to bring four witnesses. If not, he will receive eighty lashes and his testimony will be rejected forever.

Women's Veil

What the Bible Says :

If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. (1 Corinthians 11:6-10)

What the Quran Says :

“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known so as not to be annoyed…” (Al-Ahzab 33:59)

“….And when you ask them (the wives of the Prophet) for anything you want, ask them from behind a curtain: that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts….”  (Al-Ahzab 33:53)

Commentary

The Bible instructs women to cover their heads. The purpose of the covering is to show the authority of men over them because men are the image and glory of Allah while women are the glory of men! Because of this teaching, some non-Muslims think that Muslim women, who wear the veil, are ill-treated and neglected.

Unlike the Bible, the Quran instructs women to wear the veil for their protection. The veil is one of the Islamic measures to create a righteous society and to block the roads leading to fornication and adultery. The Quran clarifies that the veil makes wicked men stay away from women. Furthermore, the veil purifies the heart from immoral thoughts and temptation because showing beauty may excite men's sexual feelings. On the other hand, the Quran allows women to show their beauty to other women, their husbands and some close relatives in addition to children.

Marriage

What the Bible Says :

And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

His disciples say unto him. If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. But he (Jesus) said unto them. All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it (Matthew 19:9-12) (KJV)

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters-yes, even his own life-he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)

Those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. (1 Corinthians 7:28)

What the Quran Says :

“….But monasticism' they invented. We ordained it not, but (they sought it) only to please Allah therewith and they did not observe it with the right observance. So We gave those among them who believed, their reward; but many of them are rebellious transgressors”    (Al-Hadid 57:27)

Regarding the way of life of monks in monasteries; living a very simple life without marriage, Quran says

“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find rest in them, and He has put between you love and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for people who reflect”   (Ar-Room, 30:21)

Commentary

The Bible recommends celibacy1 and says that marriage brings many troubles in this life. It also says that Prophet Jesus (pbuh) encouraged his disciples to make themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake.

This act of monasticism could not be taught by Prophet Jesus (pbuh) for the following reasons:-

  • Jesus (pbuh) was a Messenger of Allah and he only taught what Allah commanded him to teach. The Quran states that monasticism was an invention and Allah did not ordain it.
  • The result of this teaching is the extinction of humans or at least the extinction of the religious people who follow it.
  • Celibacy is against human instincts. It suppresses sexual desires, which causes psychological problems and makes life miserable. This teaching made many Christians hate religion and prefer secular life.

In Islam salvation is not achieved by the suffering of the body and the suppression of emotions. Islam forbids self-persecution and allows enjoying the pleasures of life while observing Allah's laws.

These laws ensure that we get what is beneficial and avoid what is harmful. Islam encourages the Muslim to get married as soon as possible Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said," Whoever is able to marry should marry." However, Islam prevents humans from descending to the level of animals. Therefore, it forbids adultery and perverted sexual practices which spread diseases, destroy the family, and harm the individual and the entire society.

Polygamy (Polygyny)

What the Bible Says :

In Jerusalem David took more wives... (1 Chronicles 14:3)

He (Solomon) had seven hundred wives  (1 Kings 11:3)

What the Quran Says :

“If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, then marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with them, then only one, or slaves that your right hands possess. That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice (3) And give the women on marriage their dowry (money given by the husband to his wife) with a good heart…”  (An-Nisa 4:3-4)

Commentary

The Bible does not prohibit polygamy and most of the Old Testament Prophets were polygamous. Criticizing polygamy implies criticizing those Messengers, and this should not be acceptable to any true Jew, Christian or Muslim.

Unlike the Bible, the Quran limits polygamy to a maximum of four wives provided that the husband deals with them justly. If not, then only one wife is allowed. Therefore, polygamy is not one of the pillars of Islam but a restricted permission! The Quran did not invent polygamy but limited it.

Islam allows polygamy not merely for the satisfaction of desires but as a solution to certain social problems. It is very clear that if the number of women in any society is equal to the number of men, then every man will marry one woman and as a result, no man can marry more than one woman.  However, if the number of women is more than that of men, then polygamy is without doubt better than leaving some women without husbands which may result in fornication, prostitution, homosexuality, diseases, and illegitimate children.  Therefore, many women, who could not get married, find in polygamy the right way to satisfy their emotions and enjoy the pleasure of having a family and children.

Women's Inheritance

What the Bible Says :

(The daughters of Zeiophehad said to Moses), "Our father died .. and left no sons. Why should our father's name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father's relatives." So Moses brought their case before the Lord and the Lord said to him .. "If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance over to his daughter, ff he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father's brothers. If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it."... (Numbers 27:1-11)

What the Quran Says :

“There is a share for men and a share for women from what is left by parents and those nearest related, whether, the property be small or large a legal share”   (An-Nisa 4:7)

“Allah commands you concerning your children's (inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females….”    (An-Nisa 4:11)

“…For parents (father and mother), a sixth share of inheritance to each if the deceased left children….”  (An-Nisa 4:11)

Commentary

According to the laws of inheritance in the Bible, the woman has no right to inherit, whether she is a mother, a sister, a wife or a daughter except for the daughter who has no brothers. This law was in use until the last century and some high-class families in Europe still give most of their possessions to the first-born son.

The woman in Islam has a share of inheritance. The daughter's portion is half that of the son. This share is very generous given that, in Islam, the man's financial obligations are by far more than those of the woman. The man gives the dowry to his wife. He pays for all the necessities of life such as accommodation, food and clothes. He supports his parents in addition to his wife and children. On the other hand, the wife does not have to support anyone even herself because her husband is responsible for maintaining her, no matter how rich she Is. It is worth noting that in some cases the woman's share of inheritance is equal to that of the man.

Women's Cleanness

What the Bible Says :

When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening. Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sets on will be unclean. ... Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. (Leviticus 15:19-22)

When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days other than her monthly period.... She will be unclean as long as she had the discharge, ... On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest ... The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the Lord for the uncleanness of her discharge. (Leviticus 15:25-30)

What the Quran Says :

“They ask you (O Muhammad) concerning menstruation. Say: it is Adha (harmful to the husband if he has sexual intercourse with his wife during her period), so keep away from women during menstruation and go not in unto them till they are cleansed. And when they have purified themselves then go in unto them as Allah has enjoined upon you.  Truly Allah loves those who turn unto Him, and loves those who keep themselves pure and clean”  (Al-Baqarah 2:222)

Commentary

The Bible describes woman's period as if it is a highly contagious disease which can be passed to other people by touch. In addition, woman's discharge of blood is considered a sin of which a woman has to repent!

In Islam, woman's period or discharge of blood is neither considered a sin nor transmittable uncleanness. The husband and the wife can do everything except sexual intercourse, as it is harmful according to the Quran.

Killing the Enemy's Women and Children

What the Bible Says :

This is what the Lord almighty says: "... Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys." (1 Samuel 15:2,3)

Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:17,18)

However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. (Deuteronomy 20:16)

What the Quran Says :

“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion nor drove you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who are just (8) Allah forbids you only those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that you make friends of them' And whosoever makes friends of them, then such are the wrongdoers”  (Al-Mumtahina 60:8-9)

Commentary

The Bible asserts that Allah and His Prophets Moses and Joshua, peace be upon them, commanded the Jews to kill guiltless women and children!

“…. And they say: "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah: and they speak a lie against Allah while they know it. (Aale-Imran 3:78)

There is no doubt that Allah is free from these shocking crimes and so are His Prophets. Allah and His Prophets never commanded the killing of blameless women and children. Allah says in the Quran:

“For that cause. We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a human being for other than murder or spreading mischief in the land, it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And indeed, there came to them Our Messengers with clear signs, even then after that many of them continued to exceed the limits in the land”   (Al-Maeda, 5:32)

In the Quran, there is not a single Verse that commands the killing of the enemy's women or children. On the contrary, the Quran instructs Muslims to deal justly and kindly with all innocent people.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to warn his army, saying, "Do not kill an old man, a woman or a child."

Incest

What the Bible Says :

[Prophet Abraham (pbuh) married his sister] Abraham replied .. Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. (Genesis 20:11,12)

  • [Prophet Lot (pbuh) and his daughters] ..That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. .. So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. (Genesis 19:30-36)
  • [Reuben and his father's concubine] While Israel (Jacob) was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father's concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard of it. (Genesis 35:22)
  • [Judah and his daughter-in-law Tamar] When Judah saw her (Tamar), he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you."... So he gave them to her and slept with her and she became pregnant by him. (Genesis 38:15-18)

What the Quran Says :

There is no concept of sexual relations without marriage in Islam, so no references to such references as given in Bible. Even illegal intercourse is not encouraged to be publicized, but if happened, then there are very serious punishments for the one who is involved, not only in this world but also on the Day of Judgment.

“Verily, those who like that illegal sexual intercourse should be spread among the believers, will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter and Allah knows and you know not”  (An-Noor 24:19)

Commentary

Incest is a great sin and a betrayal of trust by someone supposed to be a protector not an offender.  It is religiously, morally and naturally rejected and detested.

Allah revealed His Books as light and guidance to lead all humans out of darkness and to warn them and guard them against evil.  These Books command righteous deeds and forbid shameful deeds and wickedness.

It is true that Allah does mention in His Books crimes and sins committed by some people. However, Allah mentions these stories to warn people against committing such sins and crimes, and not to encourage people to commit them. When a book mentions very indecent stories of incest or adultery without criticizing or punishing the people who committed them, then the book, in fact, encourages people to do the same. In the Bible:

  • Prophet Lot (pbuh) is accused of committing incest with his daughters night after night and there is no criticism.
  • Judah committed incest with his daughter-in-law Tamar and Allah rewarded Judah for this crime with two sons born of incest and one of them was (according to the Bible) a great grandfather of Prophet Jesus (pbuh), although he was born miraculously without a father!
  • Reuben committed incest with his father's concubine Bilhah, without any reaction from his father Prophet Jacob (pbuh).

What is the moral teaching of these immoral stories? Does any upright person want his or her sons and daughters to read them?

These fabricated stories have no benefit except spreading immorality and evil on earth and damaging the reputation of Prophets and righteous people. These stories cannot be the Word of Allah and cannot be from the teachings of the Prophets.
